Walk between Rannoch and Corrour stations
There is some great scenery to be found on this remote walk between to classic railway stations. Take the late morning train from Banavie to Rannoch, a journey of about 80 minutes. It is a lovely journey past magnificent mountains, beautiful lochs and rivers. On arrival at Rannoch you will probably see a few cars and people who have driven in from the east. It doesn’t spoil what is a great remote location for the start of the walk to Corrour station. There is a station tea room which is open 08:30 through 16:30 and serves excellent cakes and hot drinks. The walk starts along the only road towards Loch Eigheach. After 1 mile when you are alongside the loch take the unmade road turning left and heading northwest, then north. Stay on this rough road for about 2 miles until you reach a small wood and turn left heading northwest again. You continue steadily upwards over approximately 3 miles and eventually reach the derelict Corrour Old Lodge. After that it is gently downhill to Peter’s Rock a distance of about 1.5 miles. Once you reach this point stay left on the track heading down towards the hostel and the railway station. This final stage is about 3 miles long and provides some stunning views of Loch Ossian and the surrounding mountains. The station has a restaurant for well deserved evening meal and a rest before the late train back to Banavie. The walking time for this trip is typically 4 to 5 hours dependant on fitness levels.
